“Tłı̨chǫ Night” Sets the Stage for Ongoing Mining Discussions

Behchokǫ̀, January 30, 2024 - The 2024 Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) was held in Vancouver, January 22-26, 2024. Established in 1912, the AME encourages and promotes a safe, economically strong, and environmentally responsible industry. In addition to information sessions, a tradeshow, and events, the AME Conference provides governments, mining companies, and industry-related representatives with an opportunity to network.

It is through these networking discussions that potential introductions are cultivated into long-term working partnerships. New to AME this year was the first ever Tłı̨chǫ Night, co-presented by Tłı̨chǫ Government and Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation. The event brought together the Chiefs Executive Council, Tłı̨chǫ Executive Officer; Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation, Chief Executive Officer; key staff members; cultural ambassadors - the Tłı̨chǫ Drummers; and attracted close to 450 mine industry leaders.

The event was a success, with additional Tłı̨chǫ activities planned for AME in 2025.

The first-ever AME Tłı̨chǫ Night set the stage for leadership discussions focusing on respectful, contemporary, and progressive mining initiatives. The sharing of ideas and potential opportunities included highlighting many benefits governments and organizations can offer working partners to create and sustain long-term success. Looking ahead, Tłı̨chǫ Government and Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation will continue to identify partnership opportunities to support the Tłı̨chǫ Government's vision of a self-sufficient, healthy, economically successful, and culturally supportive way of life for Tłı̨chǫ residents. - Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty

Ması̀ Cho to the Tłı̨chǫ Government, Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation, and Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty for hosting AME Roundup’s first-ever Tłı̨chǫ Night. The Tłı̨chǫ Government plays an essential role in the territory’s mining story, and I thank Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty for meeting with me at the Vancouver conference to discuss how we can work together to support the territory’s mining sector as well as Tłı̨chǫ communities and residents. Through true partnership, we can help residents and communities see the benefits of the mineral resource industry first-hand. I look forward to working together in the months and years ahead. - R.J. Simpson, Premier of the Northwest Territories
